Corposant, thank you! Hopefully we will be able to continue to contribute to this thread in spite of Kodak's demise. The new Portra is wonderful.
sirimiri, I did have several "technical problems"! And not just with that one.
I develop and scan my own films (D76 & C41) but I'm a little sloppy with the development process. I'm slowly coming to terms that although I enjoy the process I need to either improve my development technique or have it done by a lab.
Ah, the RZ67. I think once I give up 35mm film, I'll try to find the IID version and then hope digital back prices plunge. It's such a great system, that's sooooo cheap. It's too bad it's such a pain in the butt to be "portable" with it (compared to the Mamiya 7).
I think the new Fuji system is going to continue to draw Leica's market share of current M8 and future M9 users (once a new M10 is released), assuming the lenses are good. I have used a 35mm RF for a long time now in anticipation of ultimately stepping up to a digital M, but Fuji's announcement really complicates things. The fact that I could sell my beloved 28 Cron and buy the ENTIRE Fuji system makes me a little ill. From my brief experience with the X100, Fuji really knows how to get the film look/color right off the sensor. It's kind of exciting that the Velvia/Provia look is getting closer and closer in digital.
aquanta - I'm not too shabby in the darkroom, but since I don't live in the place that can accommodate the space/materials necessary, and I really detest scanning, I just send out to a lab every month.

Nice shot. Love the 28 Summicron. I know you keep talking about the day when you'll quit 35mm film, but man, I love 35mm B&W film.
So do I - that's probably what will keep me in the "system" for a while. I shot digitally today without any film gear. It further reinforced my need for Alien Skin 3 - I just need a "make this a Portra 400" button on CS5.
Speaking of that and the 28 Cron - happened to catch some "golden light" in NY. Light is much quirkier among the skyscrapers.

Zalmy - I am pretty agnostic on who I use for color film processing (everybody from NCPS to Costco) but I will only let RPL touch my B&Ws. They are the best thing next to doing it yourself. Might be worth bringing up the blacks in #7/#8 (if that's your thing).
Funny I'm kind of the opposite, at least when it comes to scanning. I don't care so much who processes my color but I really care who scans it and the opposite with black and white... I'm thinking of trying out a bunch of c-41 b/w film, that should solve some of the issues (but from what I've seen so far I like the look of real bw film a bit better).
