Thanks! I got the camera a while ago and don't use it super often. It came from Japan and I haven't had it looked at yet.
I'll probably bring it my favorite shop somewhere this summer so they can tinker with it.

The guy at Japan Vintage Camera has a couple of how-to videos on youtube that show how to fix this; it's not that difficult but you do need a camera spanner tool and a few other things. This is a very common problem with the Canon P; the first one I bought started going dark on the other side of the frame and very dark at higher shutter speeds (1/500 and 1/1000), and I sold it (to a guy who likes to tinker with cameras); I bought another to replace it and it has the exact same problem.
