Here's one more from the local hills. It was misty that morning, and the chance of getting a super sharp imaged was nil. Do you think that the softness adds to the mood, or do I need to try it again on a clearer morning?
Here's one worked up a little - levels & sharpening - don't really know what you had in mind when you captured the image...I guess in terms of focus, it's still somewhat 'soft'
It's not too soft but it also doesn't clearly say to me "this was taken on a misty morning". It would work better if there was a bit of fog in the valleys, for example. It could just as easily have been taken in late afternoon on a hazy day.
I'd do it again on a clear morning just so that I'd know how much better it might be - and yet it might not be any better.
It is a bit small too tell if it is too soft but it does look soft which likely means its going to be very soft when it is bigger. I would try a reshoot - it is a nice scene.
What direction are you looking - an hour earlier or later might be better.
Yeah, it's too soft. And I personally wasn't a big fan of Bob's sharpened version -- too grainy, IMO. Maybe try to go the other way -- make it softer and see what you find then. You might also check out some B&W versions too. The light on the foreground hills looks like it might yield something nice in some form of B&W.
i think you cut the image on the prettiest hill.. just look more towards the right side and that smooth pic woulda been awesome. So I think smooth is nice.
I think somewhere between your original and Bob's rework would be nice. Your copy is just a little "dull", with a bit of additional lighting on the hills, but not as much as Bob's, it would brighten it up a bit. I do wish there was just a bit more mist/fog for effect, I like the soft ethereal look with fog.
