I'll be ordering a 5D in the near future and I'm wondering (and sure that there are a few) if anyone has been shooting with both FF and crop bodies. I'm thinking that lens choice will, like always when gear expands, become much more dynamic - and ideally having 2 of each lens would be the best option, but that's not always possible right away.
So, for those that might have some experience in this...what say you? Right now the 40D is a dream to shoot with but I really am looking forward to FF. Eventually I'll pick up a Ds MKIII...that'll be nice.

I have both, I like both. 2 5D's would be ideal but a 5D and a 40D work real nice. Out of my 7 lenses only 2 won't work with the FF. No biggie.
Actually the 40D for formals comes in handy. Live view with zoom in great. My 5D doesn't do that. I bet the new comer will. Waiting.....

Good to hear. Just curious, what lenses are you having issues with on the 5D?

I shoot with a 5D and a 40D. I have the Canon 10-22mm and a 18-50mm Sigma fpr the 40D and the Tamron 28-75mm on the 5D. Sometimes I use a 70-200 on the 5D whixh works really well. I have the time/date synchronized so when they load the Raw files into Lightroom they come up in the correct shooting order. When I have my assistant with me she shoots with the 40D. I have a 10D back-up camera which I have never had to use.

I was shooting with the 5D and the Rebel (not necessarily recommended). Now I borrow my dad's 5D if he's in town. I found the best combo was to put wide-angle on the 5D (28-75 -- more like "average", but it worked on the 5D) and the telephoto (70-200) on the Rebel. You miss a bit of the middle range, but your feet can do some of the work. I like my 85 on the 5D more than the Rebel. If you plan on getting a 5D, try to not buy any EF-S lenses. I don't think you need two of each kind of lens -- both the crop and full frame bodies have something to offer, and I think you should use each to its advantage.

Wow, that's quite a system! And you're not sure about the D3 yet? Wow, no contest -- if I shot Nikon, I'd be drooling. Except for that hefty price tag and ridiculous weight...
Does Nikon have a FF? I'm not up on the nikon line.

While not shooting a FF and a crop sensor, I am shooting 2 different crop sensors: 1DmkII, 1D, and 20D. Now, I don't have any of the EF-S lenses, just the regular EF ones: 17-40 f/4, 50 f/1.4, 70-200 f/2.8 and 400 f/2.8.
For weddings, the setup depends on my mood, sometimes it's the 20D w/ the 17-40 and 1DmkII w/ the 70-200(sometimes w/ 1.4x TC as well), other times it's the 1DmkII w/ the 17-40 and the 20D w/ the 70-200.

I have 2 ef~s lenses that don't work with FF. I also have a Sigma 30mm F1.4 that has a lot of vignette. Works but lots of it has to be cropped. 50 1.4 work well.

I use a 5D, 1D2, 1DS, and 1DS2. All are FF except for the 1D2, which I use for speedy work. I actually like mounting a 16-35 to the crop instead of a FF body because it helps a bit with the vignetting. I've thought about picking up a 40D to try out the live view but I haven't given in yet. All my bodies are ancient, comparatively, but they still kick butt in the IQ department.
The one thing I'd avoid is buying EF-S lenses. The only one that's tempting is the 17-55 IS, but it's just not worth the price IMO. And what happens if your 40D shutter goes out and you can't mount it on your 5D? Sucks.

5D and 40D has same control, so it will be okay. I used to shoot with 5D and 1D2. The control layouts are totally different. In a rush, it can be confusing. In my case the different between 1.3x and FF is not a big deal. I used to had a 20D and I hated the 1.6 crop because the viewfinder is so small. after using full frame for a while you will get spoiled.
I have been shooting 5D + M8 for a while. Just order the D3 Friday. I will receive the D3 next Tue and will shoot my next weeking coming saturday. I guess I will have 3 days to learn the D3. Shooting Canon, Leica, and Nikon in the same wedding is really a mixd setup. Wish me luck.

I shoot with FF, 1.3x, and 1.5x bodies. Each has its advantages... My current 2nd body is a Pentax K20D, which is my telephoto rig with the excellent Pentax 50-135 2.8 attached, which of course is 70-200 equivalent. But, it weighs a fraction of the Canon 70-200 2.8IS. So, I can have a fast 70-200 2.8 on me all day and hardly notice it! I wish I could say the same for my Canon 70-200. If Canon offered an EFS 50-135 2.8IS I would probably still own a 40D. But the bottom line is that crop fators are handy on the long end, FF is nice on the wide end. So, shoot with both and enjoy the advantages of each simultaneously!

I use the 5d with my 28-70 and 70-300. I use the 30D for 15mm Fisheye as the 5d has to much distortion. The fisheye on the crop looks amazing and takes unbelievable wedding pictures.

I am curious as to the distortion that you speak of with the 5D and the fisheye. Are you talking about the "fish" look? I love the 5D with the fisheye. You are really losing the fisheye effect of the lens on the 30D because of the 1.6 crop. You might want to check out the 10-22 Ef-s lens if you look the look of this combination. Could you post a sample distortion shot if the shots you are getting are not what I described above?

The 15mm fisheye is best on a 1.3 crop. It is still really wide and fishy but just long enough to do fun people shots. 15mm on full frame is just too wide to shoot human subjects, unless its something like an overhead shot of the whole dance floor.
