The better question is what lenses are compatible with the D80. If the lens is compatible with the D80 and the TC is compatible with the lens, then TC should work without issue on the D80.
Since the D80 is not limited to AF-S/AF-I lenses than you should be able to use whatever combo you want as long as the lens and TC are compatible. Here is a good reference from the Nikonians website.

Tese are Sigma lenses. Nikon lenses are a (sorry, I can't resist this one) hit or miss deal. Look at the back of each lens and see if it will clear. If in doubt, don't do it.
I have a Nikon AF-S teleconverter TC-20EII 2x that I'm going to list on Craigslist soon. It's in excellent condition, used very little - none in the last 2 years. I'm only doing weddings, portraits and a little commercial work these days. I'll be asking $275 for it.

Put it on the Buy and Sell board. That's where this post belongs. You'll also get a better response there.
Based on a recent experience I had when purchasing my D300 and I wanted to add a Nikon TC, I suggest you take your existing lenses with you to a dealer and see if the NEW TC'S are compatible . To my surprise my zoom telephoto Nikon lenses would not fit with the NEW Nikon TĒ's. Even my 80 to 200 2.8 did not have the same corresponding serial numbers necesary for compatibility . My 70 to 300 4.5/5.6 wouldn't fit either . I believe the new TC'S fit only the Nikon primes. The previous models do fit my zoom telephotos, but I would have to find a used one . Alan

The chart link made it seem that the TC14E II would work with AF-S lenses, so that should include the 70-200 AF-S f/2.8 zoom. But I'm just going by the chart - I haven't tried that combo..
Frankly it's EXASPERATING - Nikon can make bodies that work with a huge array of lenses so why can't they make TC's that do so?
Yes, there are some lens compatibility issues with the new TC's. The 70-200 VR works fine with them, as well as the 300 f/4 (though it does slow down the focusing considerably in low light.) Those two and the 600 f/4 are the only ones I use with the 1.7X and 2X TC's. I was warned about this with other lenses I own or have looked at, so it is something that has to be considered prior to making a purchase.
The compatibility charts are quite helpful, though Nikon doesn't allow for anything slower than an f/2.8 lens to be listed as compatible with the 1.7X or 2X TC due to reduced AF performance. They do work with some lenses, but are slow in low light.
