So I've been eyeing a body upgrade for a while, and finally went through with it earlier this week. Being a poor student, I wanted to buy used. This ended up being more work than I had hoped for and so I just straight up went down to one of the local shops and they price matched very competitively for me.
So, I bought the 40D and with Canon's new rebate system in Canada (to account for the fact that Canon gear is far more expensive here than south of the border, regardless of our currencies being par) the grip came to a cool $100.
Anyways, I love my little XTi but have already realized some of what the new body can do for me - BIF especially was much much faster.
Here's a few - not great, but it felt good taking them.
I wanted to swing around closer to the heron to get a nice BG, but unfortunately a bunch of Canada Geese were in between me, the heron and the building where I had just dropped off my resume... I didn't want my new potential employers to look out while reading through my resume and see me pissing off a bunch of nesting geese!

Hay! I know your thrilled! I just got my 40D last week, and sure was pleased with its performance when I took it out for a test drive!
Nice photos, too!
Excellent choice, Josh. The 40D is an excellent camera and the improved AF system makes it the top of the line of the XXD series. Very nice pics. Looks like you already got the hang of it. Enjoy the camera.

Nice job, Josh. I especially like the RWBB. Congratulations on your 40D. I used to have one and I still miss it. It is a wonderful camera. Looks like you are putting it to very good use.
I now have a 40D as my primary with a 20D as my backup. The 40D is definitely my favourite of the two. I have had the 20D for 3.5 years and the 40D for about 1 yr. I am looking forward to purchasing a FF in the next 12 months or so. Great shots by the way. I hope you will enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine.
Cognates Josh. Nice captures. I am also planning to go for a 40D. The only reason is BIF images. After you go out and trying out couple of BIF attempts, appreciate if you could PM me regarding its performance in terms of BIF capebilities.

congrats on the new Toy Josh. I know how your feeling, I went from a Rebel XT to the Mark III. Talk about jump up > I was amazed at the improvement in functionality and ease of operation.
The 40d has a pretty good reputation. So I think your gonna enjoy ya new toy

You are on a good roll Josh, won't take long for you to be even more comfy with that 40D, nice gooser and RWBB comp. Keep at it, looking real good buddy.

By the way, what lenses do you have?
Stephen
Right now I'm sporting the 400mm 5.6 L (this one is getting a workout), 100mm f2.8 macro, kenko ext tubes, 50mm 1.8 (barely use this one, but a solid lens for what it's worth), Sigma 24-60mm 2.8 EX DG.
Immediately on the list.
-Teleconverter
-70-200mm f/4 L
-24-105mm f/4 IS or 17-40mm f/4 (or equivalent)
-fish eye... zenitar 16mm will suit my needs, ah it could be fun.
Thanks a lot everyone for the well wishes on my new camera.
I largely funded this purchase by selling off equipment from my former 'reef-tank' - believe it or not that was a much much larger money sink than photography... oh the lens collection I would have if it weren't for reefing.
Nello, I couldn't resist! The idea has been in my head for too long... I considered getting an aging 1d series body, or even just picking up a 30D or something...but, I think I like the 1.6x crop. Don't let me influence you though.... but man, is it comfy in the hands !
The 70-200mm is pretty high on the list, I'm out of a mid range zoom.... I find myself using the 100mm prime or 400mm to take pictures of things like this.... A zoom would make my life much much easier.... I better get those shots in before the foal gets huuge.
