I just wanted to say hello to everyone, I finally signed up after figuring out my roadrunner email, which I've never used
I especially wanted to say hi to photographers who live in LA county, I haven't met many topside photographers here yet. (I mostly shoot underwater).
I live in santa monica, and I've met a couple posters here at Bolsa Chica a few weeks ago, I can't remember names, although I remember one person had a large sigma zoom lens (maybe a Bigma?), along with some contraption that made it easier to hand held. I was there taking photos with my wife. I've also visited malibu lagoon a couple times and really like it there.
I just bought a D300 and a 80-400mm lens, here's a sample photo from bolsa chica, not necessarily my best but I thought I'd throw something up

Welcome to the forum Scott. Nice shot for your first post, caught the ole guy doing what they do best. Nice exposure and what can be a difficult bird. Shoot mostly underwater? That would make a welcome addition. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

btw, I didn't mean to imply I had others that were better, it was just one of my 1st photos in my bolsa chica gallery so I grabbed that one, but it is one of my favorites... I really need to go back there. the start of the trail is a great place for RWBB, they were all over the place, but they are usually on the fence which doesn't make for a nice background. well, I hope you guys motivate to set my alarm and get back out soon for more shots.

welcome to the forum. I belong to a little photography group. We're all Nikon shooters with mostly D300s, but there are a few with D200s as well. We shoot all over the place, Malibu Lagoon & Bolsa Chica are just a few meet ups for our little group.

Sounds like you ran into "Trailhiker" aka Steve Wolfe. That is the equipment he had been useing wlth the contraption, a Bush Hawk. Great job on a tough to shoot bird.
