I think we can safely assume the 150-500 is not going to be any better. It looks like the 150-500 is merely a replacement for the very average 170-500, although they'll probably keep selling that. Won't they have like 4 500mm zooms - 135-500, 170-500, 150-500, 50-500.
Ok here's my wish for Canon: update the 100-400L but make it a 100-420 f/4-5.6L IS (yes so it's a true 400mm and equals a 300 + 1.4x TC), with spectra, coatings, weather sealing, 4 stop IS, improved performance especially with a 1.4x TC, 2x faster AF, improved MFD down to 1.6m and price it around $1600, although it'd probably initially be close to $2K.

My thoughts exactly - its why I found it surprising. But maybe they've 'tuned' it to the long end or something, which would make sense. Most of us are shooting telephoto zooms at the long end. Or maybe I just had two odd copies.

Interesting...I suspect there will be quite a bit of copy-to-copy variation as well, since Sigma has a track record in that area

Canon vs Nikon, Honda vs Toyota, Sony vs Panasonic... Japanese corporations are no less cutthroat than any others. Now the government, on the other hand, is very protective of Japanese industry....
Anybody have full resolution pics taken with this lens? Hard to find them even in the internet slrgear has done testing but the curves don't tell the whole story.
