p.1 #1 · That elusive combination...

Hey all, I don't usually post my wedding work here, but I'm excited this morning because yesterday I had that elusive combination of great light, great subjects, and great location at the same time! Here are a few early faves:

Very nice series! Gorgeous bride too!

The cake shot is a bit warm for my tastes, but I obviously wasn't there, so it's hard to say.

Thanks guys. Jonathan, I looked at the cake in the technically correct color, and didn't find it appealing as the warm version. Just a matter of taste, as you said.

Lucky duck, nice results. More incentive to try to move up in the market.

Sweet first shot. I love the hills in the back. Your colors look great (although I do think the cake is a little warm...but I understand how it might fit the mood)

Beautiful work as always, Chris, and thanks very much for posting them. GREAT light, as you said.

My favorite is #1, representing the best of the elusive combination. As you know, the highlights on the dress are a little blown, but the contrast with the background shadow and the groom is eye-catching. Did you have any fill light or a reflector used camera right for the back of the dress?

Also, was a reflector (camera right?) used for #2 as fill? I don't see any use of flash in you EXIF data, so was wondering. Nicely composed with the sun highlighting your beautiful bride's hair, I'm assuming.

Thanks, in advance, for any education you are willing to share.

Mike

Thanks Mike. No fill on #1, just trying to balance a dress with direct sunlight on one side and deep shadow on the other. But I loved the mood of the dramatic natural light... #2 was filled with a small softbox on a Quantum X5D to camera right. And yes, I positioned her to take advantage of the natural backlighting, a technique I always use where I can. Thanks again for the kind words.

What a hideous location for a wedding... It had to be depressing to have to be there, much less shoot a wedding.

I feel just awful for you.
