p.1 #1 · E-Shoot

Hi people,

These are a couple of photos from my first e-shoot and I was wondering what people thought of them, particularly the PP.
CC away thanks
Brendan

I don't know... they seem more like snaps by a friend than portraits.

Careful with tilts, that's something best used sparingly.

The second shot seems like it's got a cast over it. There's no pop to the skin and the image lacks luminance.

Thanks for the comments and advice Unblinkable & StGreen.

Unblinkable: What would you have done in say the 1st to turn it from a snap to a portrait. I tried a few with tilts and personally I don't like them but the couple seem to, so thats why I kept them in the final bunch

Will go and play around with the WB to adjust the cast.

I have recently learnt a technique using curves, where by picking a 3/4 tone point on the skin and then using CMYK values to adjust the RGB values on the curve.
I was taught that the Cyan should be 1/3 - 1/5 the Magneta and the Yellow should be equal to or greater then the Magenta with no Black. Heard of it, Know of it, Know something better

I hate PP because I am not very good at it, I crave for results like some of you guys get

I am learning and this place is a pretty good place to start.

PS these photos were of my girlfriends sister and her fiance.

Cheers

No idea. Did you change the colors? If they weren't off to begin with I'd just use a bit of white balance.

Do you have some more photos without the tilt that you can post?

To nitpick: on the first, watch the thinning hair. This one isn't bad, but be aware of lighting, angles and flash for thin hair.

On the second photo there's a lot of shine on the forehead. You can tone it down with ps but I don't know what steps I've taken before. I did select the area and inverted it before sharpening so that part wasn't sharpened.

I'm thinking of adding some oil-free face wipes and/or powder to my bag for this problem. And for her... a hairbrush?

Overall I think they're a great first effort if they weren't tilted.

I just don't know why folks shoot e~session at high noon. We have so much control we don't use. If they can't be there for sundown, choose another day that they can be. Brenden it was a great effort but all these could have been a lot nicer if shot at sundown.

Thanks Linda & Sam
Linda: I have only PP'ed a few to get an idea of what they look before I waste my time PP the rest and they look sh*t, so when I have done a few more I will post some with no tilt.

Sam: These first few were taken at around 2:30. I know exactly what you mean with later in the day as without a doubt the later photos I took this day had alot more even light.
