Well, just took the plunge and added the 24-70mm F/2.8 to my arsenal. Hope I get a good copy! It seems like there are a lot of bad copies out there? I need to use the lens this weekend for 2 engagement shoots.
Anyone got any 24-70mm images they are proud of to show?
Mine is pure mush. Much softer than the 70-200 and 16-35. I've had it into Canon and they replaced some autofocus components but it is still mush. I keep meaning to take it back to Canon and ask them to make it right.
I pretty much shoot this lens at 2.8 - and it is more than sharp enough for weddings (ie perhaps not sharp enough for newspaper or brick-wall shooters.
This lens is plenty sharp and perfect for wedding work, and I keep mine at 2.8 95% of the time during a wedding. But I do replace it with Zeiss lenses for my landscape and commercial work where critical sharpness matters and AF speed does not.
For a different perspective - this lens has never produced satisfactory results and has a permanent resting place at the back of the junk drawer. Odd how disappointing the results from this lens can be.
It is rather akin to the time I ate a whole box (purchased at the local Costco) of those sour soother candy and lost any sense of smell or taste for 8 days and still have a pained sensation at the tip of the tongue. Tempting, easy and sweet - but not so good in large measure.
soft until i dropped it, after full strip down and reassembly by canon its as sharp as you like, lesson to be learnt? send ALL lens in for repair under warranty stating soft images, I have not had to pay for this once (but expect to at some point)
