Well been a while since posting here, my studio work has been keeping me busy busy busy (can't complain though...)
So the easter holiday, looking forward to some days off and some skiing at the local slope... however on monday I ended up doing a foto job anyway... an advertising job for the local ski centre for there new brochure and a little report for the local newspaper.... (so much for the camera free easter..)
Well I also got to test the servo on my mkIII for the first time in very bright light.. worked extremely well....
The "models" in these shots are two local brothers who just happen to be world class telemark skiers (several gold and silvers in the world champs between them..) but here they are using randonee equipment...
I have to say that the trip up (yes we walked up with skins under our skis) with a sack full of two i series, 300f2.8, 70-200f2.8is and the 16-35 was not much fun
Good work. I can see why people choose you and keep you busy.
I also enjoyed reading the 'backstory' of the shoot and can only imagine how I would be feeling after climbing the mountain with that gear and skis too.
Only once have I tried to shoot skiing and I know how difficult it is. The height and speed are so hard to capture. These shots show how it is suppose to look. Great work!
The trip up may not have been much fun but it looks like you had plenty of fun on the way down. #1 is really awesome and 4 & 5 aren't too shabby either.

Thanks Liam, the batteries held up really weel, it was only minus 6 so not a big problem, I had the 1DsmkII with me as well and the battery on that showed a quicker rate of depletion than on the mkIII I had a small "ras" (avalanche is the english but it sound so dramatic,,) on me and my equipment from one of the skiers above me, it took my helmet and goggles (got them back though) and my water bottle and covered me and my cameras in snow... nothing missed a beat.. got home dried everything out and no problems at all.
These are excellent. They scream fun and you and your MK-III nailed the exposures. The snow looks as real as It could possibly look. Really nice work.

I dialed in between +2/3 and +1 exposure comp on these and of course shot RAW. It was on the very edge of clipping the highlights , but I find that works best with the 1 series files.. I then pulled in the highlights a touch in Aperture 2...
An interesting note here, these files processed MUCH better in Aperture 2 than with ACR, much nicer colour and there were some jaggy artifacts around the hood of the red ski jacket when it bordered with the blue sky (from the series #5 came from) that were awful in the ACR conversion but not there at all in the Aperture 2 conversion... I have to say I am really enjoying Aperture 2 , I have been a long time user of aperture since v1 then 1.5 but v2 really is the business.
