Hey everyone. Tonight was my first time attempting to shoot basketball, and pretty much the first time I've had credentials to shoot from the sidelines. Had a lot of trouble keeping everything in the frame...I was using the 70-200mm f/4L, probably upgrading to the 2.8 as soon as I can find one within my budget. Anyways, feedback would be nice, seeing as I'll be shooting another one Wednesday evening. The rest of the set can be seen at:
Look good, and f/4 seems to handle the conditions well, but they seem a tad under exposed.
1/800th is probably a little fast, especially indoors at f/4.0
Next time out give 1/620th or 1/500th as it is fast enough to stop action and will give you better exposure (at f/4). There was a thread with a discussion about various speeds for stopping the action indoors. If I find it I'll post back...
Thanks! I'll try shooting at 1/500 and 1/640 tommorrow. I think I'll bring my nifty fifty along with me as well...maybe that will help prevent me from cutting off body parts hah. Lot more difficult than I thought watching the action through my view finder at 70mm.
