Reply from Autralian Museum:

Hi Andy,
We solicited the help of Eric Eaton, and he wrote: "Fulgoroidea
(planthoppers) that I don't recognize more specifically!."
Coincidentally, your photos were also sent to us by a member of a
photography forun where you must have posted the images. The other
email also contained view from above that was not among the images you
sent.

Update: (03/25/2008)
Unknown planthopper from Australia
Hi Daniel,
The insect might be a member of the Derbidae family, which live in the
tropics and According to the CSIRO "The Insects of Australia" they
include the Zoraida: "The body of the Zoraida is very short, but the
wings exceedingly long and narrow."

So, I found this site listing species of Derbidae:

http://www.agric.nsw.gov.au/Hort/ascu/fulgor/derb01.htm

and clicking on the image link at the top below Lydda Elongata

http://www.agric.nsw.gov.au/Hort/ascu/fulgor/lyddaelo.htm

Pic 2 seems to be the one, although I would say pic 1 looks different.

just not sure which of the 4 it is:

"Lydda elongata (Fabricius)
Cicada elongata Fabricius 1781: 324
Lydda elongata (Fabricius), Westwood 1841: 478
Diospolis elongata (Fabricius), Muir 1918: 174
Philadelpheia pandani Kirkaldy 1906: 432, synonymised by Muir 1918: 174 "

Well, guess no need for me to share this info, I was the other guy who sent in your pics for ID ! However, can't seem to find a pic like yours yet too many variables for me to sort through but it is killing me not to know....stay on it! Just got my reply back at work today, sent all three pics in.
