No, you don't need 85 f/1.2 or any other special lens to shoot magnificient photos, and having one doesn't make your photos any better either.
Cats with multicolored hair (brown tigers etc. whose each single hair changes its color several time with one inch of hair length) are technically good test subjects for digital cameras, independent of whether you like cats or not.
Heh, yeah I wrote that it was not a great picture meaning in terms of showing the best bokeh etc of the lens but it is perfect in that it captures the attitude of this cat.
Sometimes he/she will just sit there like that mean mugging you through the window waiting until you give it some food. It's like the feline version of a mafia shakedown.
