I can't make up my mind which of these looks better, I truly love the color version, but the sepia tone with the vignetting has a decided old time look to it. Comments and critique welcome as always!
Thanks for the comments, I'll look at cropping a bit on the right side, but I think your crop took a wee to much off the left, the one second of ocean dives into the edge. I appreciate the input!
I like the 1st one best. Sepia does not suit the mood of this subject for me. Sepia for me is more about implying an old shot whereas this shot is feels modern.
Nice framing but seems oversaturated in the water. Nice picture too.
1/1000, 33mm, iso 100, f4.5 seems like correct choices but it looks like it was underexposed and then brought back in photoshop because of the seeming loss of details. Was the historgram showing toward the left? Maybe just the loss of resolution in posting.
DmitriM - I'm confused, are you indicating that the 1st picture is bad because of the inclusion of the frame, or just bad in general? I generally put a small frame around my pictures that I print for my album so people can have an idea what they would look like matted and framed. I try to choose a color from within the photo because I like that better than white or black, but I'm beginning to understand that perhaps black or white are better in general so as to not distract from the photo itself.
Jo-
I agree with you on keeping the left side of the frame as is.
Visually I think the sepia works fine, in fact I prefer it, but I'm not sure that it fits the character of the shot... you might try a version in B&W or desaturate a bit and see how that looks. As someone noted above the ocean seems oversaturated, it draws the eye from the lines in the cliff and the lighthouse which is more interesting.
Dmitri - I have to admit, I kind of agree with you. Ever since I actually printed it out with this color framing, I've been debating about the color choice. Thanks for the input.
Here's another shot at it after hearing the comments. Cropped, less saturated, and no color frame. I like it better, hope you'all do too! Thanks for all the input, I greatly appreciate the learning environment.
