p.1 #1 · Self Portrait - Variations

Hey guys,

I was just working on a self portrait, and I had a hard time deciding between some variations.

Please tell me what you think:

Original:

Natural:

Aged:

Darker:

This is the crop and effect that I ended up posting in the end:

But I would love to hear what everybody thinks. Did I make the right choice?
I always have a hard time deciding between different effects ... all of them work in their own little way, I think.

Thanks,
Sergei

Hehe, thanks! That's the one I chose. But I had like 3 different variations for that too, haha, I'm really horrible with decisions!

Aged for me too, although the final version you posted has some hot spots that are rather distracting. Perhaps you could tone them down just a tiny bit, but I really think that effect works!

Thanks!
What do you mean by hot spots?

Darker works best for me. The aged looks too overexposed for my liking.

There is a feature in fm that allows posting a poll. The advantages of the poll is that it is easy to vote and you are anonymous and thus you will get 10x the input. There is a statistical theory that a large number of voters will make the superior choice - in votes of number of jelly beans in a jar typically asking hundreds of people to vote yields an average vote that is very close to the acutal result. Thus for two reasons you should try the poll for this method.

Sergei, the hot spits I was referring to are 1)right above the eyebrow, skin detail lost in just a small area and 2)all around the mole to the right of the eye, again skin detail is lost in the bright area. These brighter areas draw the eye to them, and distract from the overall look of the portrait.

Just my $.02.

Ah, thanks! I didn't think of a poll. I'm new here. Hehe.
Is there any way to add a poll to an existing thread?

Aged darker! Aged is a little blown out for me, and I think the deeper shadows in "aged darker" adds so much more depth to the picture and what you are trying to say.
