So im confused here. Say "x" company hires me for "x" amount of money to shoot an ad or ad campaign. Next thing i do for instance after getting the specs etc is a casting. Now...here's my question...do i bill the company SEPARATE from the original invoice for the models or am i paying their rates from the sum the company paid me to shoot it? Or are the models themselves to bill the company?? Im not talking about a mom and pop operation...im talking about big corporations or apparel etc. companies.
Im wondering if i'm supposed to pay the models after the company pays me...or do they pay the models after i get their rates?
Im obviously not able to give the company a correct quote as i dont have the models' rates before i cast....
In most cases a commercial client will cast, hire and pay for models themselves. It's relatively unusual for a photographer to be put in the middle of that arrangement.
As usual Shatterkiss is right, you don't want to get in between the agents and the client. I do work for some of the auto companies and their agencies. While I would offer my input on the selected models, I left any business talk to the people upstairs.
You can make sure that you tell them on your estimate that model fees will be billed directly to the client, obviously you need to make arrangements with them first, you don't want be stuck with thousands of dollars in model fees at the end of the day.
