p.1 #1 · Canon 300 mm f 2.8 L IS lens collar damage

I am baffled and looking for more opinions about a unique experience. A person used my Canon 300 mm f2.8 L IS lens. It was returned to me. The lens collar would not grip the lens. The retaining nut that is set into the body of the lens collar with industrial epoxy was dislodged from its position. It was inside the lens collar. The user stated that he broke the collar removing it from the lens. He refused to pay for it to be repaired. He stated that there was something wrong with the collar.

What experience might anyone here have that could shed light on this situation?

The user obviously did not know how to remove the collar. So, he forced it off.

Sorry, I'd be more inclined to loan out a lung than my 300. There is something wrong with
the "borrower". I can send Giudo to pay him a visit if you'd like. Good luck, 'monkey.
