I don't have a digital image of it (I was shooting film at the time), but I have a photo I took of my left hand as it was resting on a 20 foot long grey whale calf in a bay off the Baja peninsula. Just like a curious kitten or puppy, the two-month old calves would swim up to our zodiak and nudge it with their noses to try to figure out what it was. They would also roll on their sides to get a better look at us. Mom - all 40-45 feet of her - was never far away and sometimes she would gently bump the zodiak too. It was quite an experience.
However, while I didn't touch them, I have had two lion encounters in the last two years where 28mm WAS NOT WIDE ENOUGH!!! In the first one, my shadow is the send one from the left. This was taken in Botswana, August 2006.

I also have this photo from my Kenyan/Tanzanian safari . We were at the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania when this lioness decided to lay down in the shade of our vehicle for 45 minutes. This was taken by my fellow traveler, Alan.
