p.1 #1 · Gig photography advice.

I am going to a Neil Young concert on saturday at the Hammersmith Apollo which I have been told allows non flash photography and intend to take some pics to remember the occassion.Previous attempts at shows with the wifes Pentax P&S have been pretty useless.I shall only be taking a few shots as I want to enjoy the show and not annoy my fellow concert goers,so I want to make what I do take really count.I shall be using a 40D with a 50-150mm Sigma f/2.8.This is not my usual type of photography so any advice would be greatfull received.
Many thanks.

Get as close as you can so you can use a slower shutter speed without lens blur. The 40D can handle 1600 pretty well, 3200 if you're really strapped for light. Just remember: Grain looks better than motion blur. Shoot wide open unless there's a lot of light. At 50mm, your DOF will be just fine. Check out dofmaster.com if you want to run some DOF comparisons.

Thanks-I have never shot that slow and the DOF is reassuring.
Cheers,
Pete.
