p.1 #1 · Epson 3800 Paper Choice

OK - thanks to the input from FM I ordered a 3800 - it will be on the plane back with me to the Virgin Islands...I am buying to print images for myself, and for sale potentially. I am looking at larger format paper from Epson, and am confused at all the choices. I would like a "fine art" look in larger sheet form. Can anyone offer advice on what to order?

Thank you!

If your going with Epson paper. The UltraSmooth fine art paper is excellent, a bit costy....but excellent. Velvet fine art paper is also nice, has a slight texture. Epson Radiant White Watercolor paper is also nice for a cheaper paper. Works well with the 3800 and has a nice texture. But not as heavy or as nice as UltaSmooth or Velvet. You may want to get some Enhanced Matte for practice it is cheap but yellows over time. These all use the Matte black ink

I recommend trying sample packs. http://www.inkjetart.com/samples.html
and http://www.atlex.com

I am getting the 3800 soon also so I'm ordering samples myself. I have tried Harman fiber papers, both the glossy and the matte (I liked them both) and have ordered the Ilford Gold Silk Fiber sample and the small box of Epson Exhibition. I find the new fiber papers to be exciting options for fine art photography.

I own the 3800 and like it very much. I agree that you should try a sample pack to see what works for you. I will say I mostly use inkjetart's micro-ceramic paper (luster). It works very well will the Epson Premium Luster Profile and is reasonibly priced. There is also the benefit in the avalability of this paper in 17 by 25 cut sheets. I use this size to print in the 1:1.5 ratio at 16 by 24 inch.
