Hey guys, I'm new here, but I've browsed for a while. Recently I've been having a problem with my pictures quality.
I'll try to put out as much info as I can so maybe someone can help..
Rebel XT, set on sRGB.
I use Adobe Photoshop CS3 to process the RAW files and the Color settings are set at Adobe RGB (1998)
Here's my problem.. when I process in CS3, I make adjustments accordingly and everything turns out good the way I want it to. However, when I save it (I save as .jpg and at "12" which is the best quality), the colour of the picture seems to be desaturated when I open it up in either Picasa or Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.. it looks extremely dull, and boring.. no bright colours or anything, despite the fact that I increased the saturation a bit to make it perfect.
What is the problem? Is there something I'm doing wrong in my post-processing? Am I saving it incorrectly?
I was at a debut last night and I took my 50mm f1.8, my pictures are still very amateur-ish, but the problem with colour REALLY bugs me. Everytime I edited the pictures, the colours would be perfect and then I saved it and it just turned into garbage again.. Here's an example of what I mean from last night
If you are going to use your photos on the web or in non-color managed applications like the ones that you have listed, you need to save your jpegs in the sRGB color space. To correct your problem, just open your existing editted shots and either use the Photoshop output for the web function or save to the sRGB space. Good luck.
Do you guys mean by changing the color settings in photoshop to sRGB?
I've pinpointed the problem to "saving" the picture. Everything before saving inside photoshop is perfect, however after saving and then locating it (My Documents) and opening it with either Picasa or Windows P&F Viewer, the color is then desaturated and it almost looks as though the whole picture's quality has stepped down a notch.
Is it just my computer?
Your aRGB images will appear desaturated in non-color managed applications. You must save your image as a sRGB image (NOT an aRGB image). Photoshop allows you to make the change in a number of ways.
But, the instructions Paul listed above will be a quick way to fix the problem. When you are finished editing your image (or any time up to that point), select the EDIT menu, then Convert to Profile, then select sRGB as the profile that you want to use. Save your image and then test it in your applications.
If you want a little more permanent solution, find the recent thread labeled something like my Photoshop Color is Screwed Up ... and read my comments in that thread. Another easy approach is when you do the RAW conversion just convert into sRGB (click on the blue underlined aRGB etc. line toward the botton of the window in ACR).

Thank you so much! I think this may actually solve my problem, I knew there was something going on with the process of saving, I just had no clue what step I had to take to correct it or adjust.
