As of now I give prints with my packages, I give a CD, thy write back to the prints they want… BUT… I was thinking about giving print credits as oppose to prints. I figure this would allow the freedom of the B/G to order whatever size they wanted. I may also include a proof book (not a CD)… but not sure if it should be a ‘full-size 4x6 proofs’ or a ‘proof portfolio’.
We used to offer set packages with prints, but we found this too constricting. So far all of our clients except one have appecriated that we offer the print credit. It does - as you said - allow them the freedom to get whatever they want.
We offer print sizes so that people have an idea of what they are able to get, but tell them that they aren't cornered into those particular sizes. They can change up if they want. What I found when dealing with print credits is that I had a lot of people saying, "Okay... what size can I get with that?" So really, there's no wrong answer. It's just what your nerves can handle answering fifty thousand times.

Why would they ask that question if your print prices are set? My prices are set for my client 60 days after their wedding. If they order prints that total the print credit they already know what the prices are and what sizes they can order up to the total of the credit.

Because they're lazy and want me to answer everything without them having to look crap up.
Print credit is best .. I used to give a fixed number but found that everyone seemed to want a different mix. So now I give a credit and they pick the sizes & quantity.
I do a print credit as a thank you when they get the disc. It's a nice card, like a gift certificate with instructions. I've yet to have someone who didn't get it.
I'm getting ready to raise prices and will likely put the print credit as an upfront feature. I'm thinking 10% of the shooting fee, so $300 for $3,000 shoot & burn

I'll second that. All of my packages will include a credit, but people still ask even though the print prices are right in front of them. People like things "spoon-fed" into their brain.
Maybe people just need to read it first and then they'll understand, but it comes up at least every sales meeting.
I totally agree that they are lazy, but this is also why the prices are on the order page and they have a code that they can use which limits how much will be deducted from the total order.
we used to offer print credits etc...However have now reverted back to an inclusive all up package price.
From our experience our couples want everything in laymens terms including what they are receiving all up at a certain price.
Keeps things simple...
We do a fixed set of prints rather than offering a print credit. It's treated more as our "recommended list of print sizes" though, and we will swap different sizes and combinations in and out on request.

You have a credit card.
Your limit is $300
11x16 prints equal $100 each
You can by 3 11x16 prints
What's difficult about that?
With a set number of whatever prints people might want to swap this for that because they want more 8x10 of a particular photo.

Couples are not stupid and dont want to be limited in their choices and particularly dont want to be held to ransom financially.
I dont agree with the whole $4,000 package which includes eg $1500 credit for prints.
Particularly when you charge so called $150 for a "8x10" that is extortion if you ask me and im not into those type of marketing methods nor are my clients likely to refer me to friends and family.
I Prefer to disclose everything up front without any limitations in reprints provided they are going towards the album anything else is understandably extra and purely optional NOT obligatory.
Just how we do things and it works for us.
