I love my 1DIII. But there is a new addition to the wedding arsenal family...and her name is D3. I just opened up my box and charging it up. The feel of this thing is just sweet as can be.
I can't think of a better pairing then these two bodies working side by side at a wedding. It's like Darth Vader and Yoda joining forces.
Just sharing my Xmas morning feeling with my comrades. Hope everyone is happy as I am right now.
Was discussing this very topic with a friend earlier today.
Nikon have certainly sent shockwaves through the industry with this new machine !!!
And have given canon a nice little kick up the rear end....
Iv'e seen the results at 6400 asa and they are AMAZING..............!
I've just finished a complete switch. I have absolutely no brand preference whatsoever; I'll shoot whatever is most appropriate and best for what I do. But I couldn't/wouldn't want to deal with dual system shooting. With that said, I've just come to the D3 from 5d and 1d MK III, and frankly, I haven't missed a single lonely feature in the MK III. The D3 just rocks. There is one Canon feature I do miss, but it's only well implemented on the 5D and not on the MK III, and that's the custom C setting. Both the D3 and MK III have variations of it, but none as "all-encompassing" and quick as the way it's done on the MK III. Happy shooting, Freddy
The dual system isn't that bad at all...You just have to remember everything is in the reverse direction of Canon! I remember the first time I was scratching my head just trying to take the cap off.
I guess it's just me...I haven't had an issue with the Nikon layout...As a matter of fact...I find myself saying on certain things, "Why couldn't Canon be more like this?" The ergonomics are very nicely designed respectively. Some things just seem to be in a more appropriate location. For example, having an actual switch for the metering mode. It's right there...bang. Just my personal preference, but small things like that are noticeable and appreciated.
Hands down, the LCD on the D3 is a fantastic improvement. You have to see it to appreciate it. The auto ISO seems like it's going prove to be quite a useful tool. And yes, 6400 ISO has to be seen to be fully appreciated. The user interface in the menu is quite user friendly, such as having detailed information available to explain each of the selections. Things that prove the 'designed for photographers' and 'designed for engineers' differences, if you will.
If anything, I believe the D3 justifies using a dual system easier.
I love my 1DIII, but last night, laying there in bed...I was actually having thoughts of selling off a couple of my Canon lenses to make room for some additional Nikon step brothers and sisters.
I have the utmost respect for both systems...Each has some of the most amazing toys we all get to play with. I just have the best of both worlds.
It's like Yoda and Darth Vader have joined forces.
