p.1 #1 · old fashioned look away

Taken at the Focus on Imaging show at the UK national exhibition centre Tuesday. The model was posing for other cameras and I liked the serious look. Taken at f/1.2 with the Canon 85L. C&C appreciated, positive or negative.

I think it works nicely. She looks very open, almost like she's ready to bolt or run or something. great shot.

thank you Jacob
I like your interesting reading of this. I wondered if she just looked fed up - but there seemed something more than that in this look. you found it I think!

Thanks, but you're the one that found it, I simply pointed it out.
She does have a very stern look. great work.

I think it works but I would like a little more room on the right, not to much.
Seems to need 1/16th to 1/8 more, to center her eye in the picture more so..
Just a thought .. love her expression, good pose as well.

I disagree. I dont think her eyes are the real focus point of this shot. with her head turned like that it draws out her neck down towards the opened top of the shirt. I think the silhouet as a while is the focus. It would make sense to centre the eyes a little more, but I think only if they were the truly meant to be the focal point. Now I could very easily be wrong about this and what the focus is, and if so I apologize for arguing. Sometimes I get a little carried away.

many thanks for the comments guys. Indeed her eye was (technically) the focus (at f/1.2) but yes it's the different pose I liked too. I did try various different crops and wasn't sure I'd got it right - for reference here's the original shot:

This is hosted on flickr and that site seems to mangle all the colors but I though the shot suited b&w better anyway. Could I have cropped it better - I think maybe ... (I also liked it cropped tighter) - left it uncropped - I'm still not sure.....

appreciate your looking and thoughts..

No need to defend what you see. A friendly exchange of ideas never bothers me.
But for me the focal point the way it is now draws my eye to her ear.
Where I would prefer to have the beautiful eye as the focal point.
More could have been added to the right or take some off the left or leave it as it is
I was just providing what my old eyes see when I first look at the portrait.
No offense taken by your arguing, art is subjective ..

Thanks. And now that I look at again, I see what you mean. Though I do still like the crop. That being said I really like the original color. Why not combine a crop with the color?
Very nice.
