Had about 30 minutes with this couple right as it was getting dark... and not the "good" right as it was getting dark. The part closer to dark.
I need to get better at using light at night. When I have something to anchor them to (a wall or whatever), then I don't mind the total darkness around them... but this park was wide open and didn't have much to use, so I tried to up the ISO to give me more ambient. However, this just makes me have to deal with grain in post. *sigh*
One thing that might be worth trying next time on a few is a rim-light on him so that his black tux doesn't totally disappear.... like on the last shot where he might have benefited from a tiny bit of gridded rim-light on his left side to preserve the outline.
Just a thought to provide some constructive feedback... its a lovely series and I don't intend the above suggestion to detract from that.

I totally agree with you. There's so much more we need in the area of lighting. As it stands now, I have our off camera flash (580) and pocket wizzards. If I had a second light, I would have totally lit him better. It's one of my main pet peeves with this shoot.
I used our 580 as an off camera. My husband is holding that off to the side. I believe the first few still had the small soft box attached to it. But the last ones are bare flash with a little bounce from our hand.
These are great shots. I just don’t know how you guys do it. These shots are different from your style. I guess it is the off camera stuff that is throwing me off. It shows you can do it all. Each time I visit your website I’m always blown away by the quality of your pictures. They are so clean. Do you use whiBal or something like that for white balancing?
