Had this idea kickin' around in my head for weeks. Procrastinated on doing it until the last minute Now I have no time to improve it so I hope it's at least presentable

Hate's a powerful thing. And I didn't want to take this photo either down a dark or a campy path. So the expression on my face is one of honesty.
The focus is on the alarm. The big problem, and one that I now cannot correct in time, is the fact that with the bell ringing, the entire alarm shakes.
Either way, even though I agree with much that you say, I can't fix the shot before the deadline at midnight.
It's tough to choose which crop on this one. The tighter one focuses more on the eye saying "You've got to be kidding, it can't be time to get up!" The first image makes the observer feel more of an overall tired feeling of the subject by showing the pjs and well slept on pillow. Great image either way! I like the color! And the beard growth! Maybe just a bit sleepier looking eye. Nicely done!
Now I have no time to improve it so I hope it's at least presentable
