do you take their applecare protection plan $218 CAD. worth it?
i am planning to buy a macbook. it says within 24 hours, even weekend or just weekdays?
If I were you, I'd pick up apple care the day before your 1 year warranty expires.
APplecare is okay, but it does not cover many things that Dell or HP extended warranties cover.
Basically it offers software support, and any manufacturer defects. Anything else, its up to the mercy of the genius bar staff (although the genius bar staff has been willing to help).
If you buy your computer with a Visa, it automatically doubles the manufacturers warranty.
Otherwise, you may want to look at other reputable warrant companies which will handle things like damaged lcd's, or other neglect issues.
the visa only provide double the factory 1 year warranty to 2, and against lost up to 90 days.
the doubling warranty is only for stationary products, like desktop. i don't think visa will give you double warranty on laptop. i might be wrong, but, that's what i remember.

Not true. I have received 4 new MB's for free at the genius bar. they will do anything they can at the genius bar to fix it. It will always be free as well. Even if it's your fault, they wont make you pay. No matter if its in or out of warranty.
I would get applecare. It cost too much to replace/repair laptop. Sure it cost $350 but that is a small change when you have to fork out $1K for parts/service/shipping costs.
One way to get a cheap price for Applecare is from university students who should be able to buy at a discount price. Know anyone?
I took the applecare plan, and i received my macbook today, but, i dont see anything about teh applecare plan in the box, when i checked the online status, it said complete. don't i get a box to register the extended warranty?
I'll repeat what has been said above by dcains. You can get a significant discount on AppleCare if you buy it through LA Computing. They're a brick and mortar store that sells Macs, so this is not a fly-by-night outfit. I've no idea how they can sell AppleCare at a discount, but they do! Good luck. It is an excellent investment in peace of mind...
I buy the Applecare. Haven't needed to use it but if I ever do....also, when my new Mac arrived recently, no Applecare was enclosed. It arrived a few days later by another carrier.
What is the reputation of Macs? I got Applecare for my iPod 4th gen because it had a habit of dying. Sent in for servicing 3 times in 2 years. Every time Apple replaced it with a new one (or at least the casing was new..) Funnily it hasn't died in the past year and a half. Though it does seem to be acting up now and again.

That's not true. Applecare does not cover user damage. Only manufacturer defects.
Trust me on this. I was an idiot and I cracked my brand new MBP screen, and it was not covered. I bought a replacement screen and had to replace it myself.

Section 1 b, subsection ii:
The plan does not cover:
"Damage to the Covered Equipment caused by accident, abuse, neglect, misuse (including faulty installation, repair, or maintenance by anyone other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider), unauthorized modification, extreme environment (including extreme temperature or humidity), extreme physical or electrical stress or interference, fluctuation or surges of electrical power, lightning, static electricity, fire, acts of God or other external causes;"
As I said before, Applecare *ONLY* covers defects in material and workmanship.
Again, like I said, anything above that is up to the mercy of the Genius Bar staff. As your experience has shown, they are willing to help, but they are not obligated to do so, and there are plenty of stories in which the Genius Bar staff was unable or unwilling to help.
Buying applecare as protection plan for cracked LCDs, damaged cases, keyboard spills, or any other type of damage is not recommended. You are better off buying insurance through a 3rd party which will cover accidental damage.
Additionally, credit card purchases (visa in particular) will double the manufactures warranty (via reimbursement).
