p.1 #1 · Art School Portfolio

Hey everyone. I am about to apply for art school and I am going to include a portfolio of about 10 drawings and 10 photographs. I have made a set of them on flickr, but I still need to trim a few off, or choose a few standouts. If anyone would like to take a look at them and give me some thoughts, it would be much appreciated. Thanks again!

As far as technical skills go, IMO, I think you've presented evidence of skill mastery. As far as artistic merit, I have no basis to judge that - I'll leave that to others.

Good luck with your portfolio and studies,

Bob

The 10 I would choose in no particular order are.
1) _MG_6379 but I would trim off some of the bush on the bottom
2) bmw2
3) _MG_7010
4) IMG_1032r
5) IMG_13370 but I would crop some off the top
6) IMG_12549
7) IMG_5689s
8) IMG_5726s
9) IMG_4097
10) IMG_5243b

Just had a very quick look and like your photos.

On IMG_5243b it looks as if the out of focus part at the front of the pic has been blurred in Photoshop. I have the impression that the focus jumps to heavy blur at one point? Or is it just me imagining it.

On IMG_3292 the power or phone lines or whatever they are distract me personally.

I am a sucker for lost shots like IMG_4136. Very nice colour in IMG_12549, albeit a lot of darkness too.

Thank you all. For the most part, the recommendations I have gotten have reflected each other very closely, which gives me a good feeling about my choices. About 5243b, it is actually a natural blur. I just used a fast lens (50 1.8) at very close focal distance. Thanks again.

PS. - I agree, I'm totally a sucker for that kind of lost shot as well. Too bad it's so hard to do on purpose
