p.1 #1 · How to keep white seamless white...

I know it tends to mark up quickly anyway, but are there any good methods for keeping seamless from getting marked up so quickly? I'm not a paper miser - but I also don't want to have to pull more out after 3 outfits (especially during an all day shoot). I've heard of taping shoes, but are there any other tricks?

Have a clear plexiglass sheet on the portion of the paper on the floor.

Most are using 1/4" thick 4'x8' sheets on hardwood floors.

No flex ...

There are however some reflections.

You can see this reflection effect on many images that you see on this site and on the net.

I'd love to find a way to do this without reflections if possible.

buy big sheets of the plexiglass used in photoframes. It has the dull finish to it that prevents reflections so it will be an improvement.

Or get white plexi and use very find sandpaper to dull the finish. Still white, but less reflection.

Tape the shoes. Accept the fact the the paper will become dirty and fix it in Photoshop if you don;t want to unroll it.

I built a white cyc, a little bit of paint between outfits kept a clean bg.

Just screw on a polarizer filter and the reflections off the glossy surface will disappear.

You could look into white vinyl.

And a mop.. just clean it off. More expensive, but stays white.

Just cut off the dirty parts from time to time. Seamless is an expendable, not an investment ;-)

If I'm not shooting full-length, I ask my subjects to take off their shoes. That helps keep it clean longer.

Thanks all for the ideas. Keep 'em coming!

Like I mentioned earlier, I'm no paper miser, and have no problem rolling out a few more feet - but I dont' want to have to do it ever 10 minutes over a day long shoot.

For those who use white vinyl, do you have problems matching it to seamless? For example, have you been able to find something that matches Savage's arctic white?

Do you just like the color of the savage? The vinyl you use just like a roll of paper, except you just clean it instead of tearing off the old.

Now that makes sense. Could I be so bold as to ask for a link to the sort of vinyl you would use?

Also - does using vinyl create any weight/stability issues for you bg system? Or do you just sandbag your bg stands and call it good?

http://www.dennymfg.com/store/

Sign-up for their specials and they send specials every couple of weeks. One common special is their white vinyl for 1/2 off.

I have a towel on set for the models to wipe the bottoms of their shoes. I also use plexi whenever possible.

I assisted for a guy that used the same pads of double sided tape type stuff I've seen at basketball games. The clients would step onto a series of welcome mat style mats and then these tape pads to get everything off of their shoes and then step onto his muslins for dance style shots. It worked fantastically but was basically another case full of gear that he carried.

I always walk on socks and so are the models, unless I have to shoot there feet also. For the rest I use a new piece if it gets too dirty.

I do exactly the same. Shoes only when feet will appear on the pictures and I try to clean them as well as I can.

I use formica? Not sure if that is spelled right , but it is the stuff they used to cover the top of cheap kitchen counters or tables..:+}
Works great and easy to clean as well. Also comes in MANY colors..:+}
