Like being arrested for carrying a camera near an airport, being shot at or blown up by a suicide bomber, but apart from that ....

Why leave, i'm very happy with my equiptment. The cameras are rock solid and the lenses are superb. I just can't see changing equiptment every time something new comes out, just like changing you'r car every time they have a new model.
I almost got my hand on a new D700 ; was just waiting confirmation that the new 5D2 will only have, basically, more pixels and ISO... that was right... and we had a winner, the D700!
But there was this intriguing thing people talked about, that I never thought could be of real use on a DSLR. Video. And this movie from Laforet...
And... now I'm waiting for the first real-users reviews...
I shouldn't wait too much or Nikon will 1. add video to the D700 by firmware (if possible) or 2. release the D700x with video and we've come full circle!

It won't happen. The video encoding end of it is likely a completely new DSP chip which isn't present on the D700.

Honestly, I doubt it will happen. They've got it in the D90, although it obviously has problems. But my gut feeling is that they'll keep it at the D90 level, where it makes sense in terms of marketing, etc. As whiz-bang as the video in the 5D Mark II is, I think ultimately Nikon will realize that their market for the D700 isn't really pining for it, so why bother? If there's a D700x, it will be a high-resolution version optimized for low ISO work - starting at least at ISO 100, if not ISO 50 for studio and landscape guys.
