Despite the slightly puerile posts from a couple of people here, you're right, rudeness appears to be the exception. These threads are very interesting and informative. I had a couple of creative issues I needed another view point on and several posters provided me with solutions I wouldn't have thought about.
FM has proved to be extremely useful to my work, so I'll be hanging out here when I can. But in the meantime, I'm off to make some more pictures with my 85 1.2 L
Here's a recent image used for a contents page of a prospectus. My client asked for clear, uncluttered space to the left of the image for 'contents and folio details'. The bokeh from the 85L at 1.2 was ideal.
Here is another picture from my 85L. It is a fun lens to use and that is why I bought it. Nothing at all to do with the sports and motorsports stuff which pays me.
I sold this lens once and regretted it almost instantly. Got me another one that I will never sell. I am waiting for the 5D II with live view. Then this lens will really shine.

If you are referring to me I make no apologies at all for saying the work is average, a lot of it here is. Some of it is also absolutely excellent.
This is Fred Miranda, where pros and experienced photographers hang out and we want to see the good stuff, not a picture showing how one beer bottle is in focus and the others aren't. That isn't art it's cr@p. It doesn't help choose a lens at all.
I'm not showing my pics here for two very good reasons, first I don't own an 85L, so can't contribute a pic here and secondly my work is almost all copyrighted by my clients not to be shown as it is (now) largely industrial and sensitive. I'm happy to respond to individual requests for links to my site, although it's fairly standard pro fare.
I do post the occasional personal pic, but they often aren't brilliant and I want to keep the standards here up as much as possible.
David - we ALL want to see only the best images ... especially when we are talking about sample images from THE best Canon lenses, as it is very inspiring. But you have to get real here. Skills levels and standards vary considerably, and there are many newbies and neophytes who own exotic Canon glass. So invariably you are going to see some really stunning examples AND lots of really bad stuff as well. It's the same situation in "show me your best Canon/Nikon" shot threads - there are lots of crappy photos. You just have to look beyond these bad and "average" samples and just look at the good ones ... and then decide for yourself if this lens is worth its premium price. There will be more than enough good sample images to look at.
Totally agree with Daan!
Anden, Beautiful portraits! But those extremely thin DOF's you captured, especially the last one, really shine!
Ashok, keep those mediocres coming!
