Ok, not to impress on an esthetical level, only to show the level of sharpness and the smoothness of bokeh at f/1.2 (ISO 1600, 1/50th sec):
Just shot in near darkness. One thing about the 85L that I like is it's weight. It allows me to get keepers with shutterspeeds as low as 1/40th sec on a regular basis

Why not take a photography course with the 85 1.2L? That would be even better wouldn't it?
Or do you think taking a course with a nice lens is not allowed? Maybe there's some prohibition for good equipment?
If the photo above, from the kid, was in perfect focus, in perfect composition and with perfect lighting, I wouldnot call it a "mediocre photograph", would I?
Maybe I shouldnot be driving a big SUV, because my driving capabilities are not by far to the standards of, say, anyone taking part in the Dakar Trophy?
Regards,
Have fun,
RT.

Do we really want to spend time in here with the more or less apparent purpose of being rude to each other?
If I were more than a snapshot shooter, I probably would have something else to do than to hang around here. And even if I were here, I would try not to intentionally hurt anyone's feelings, as much as I like brutal honesty towards myself. But, YMMV.
Sorry guys, but considering the cost of this lens, these are very average shots (with the usual exception of Canerino).
If you are going to part with that much money, basically for the option of shooting at f1.2 and this is the best we can come up with after four pages, I'll stick to my cheapo 1.8 version
Well, different people take their pleasure from different things. If they have money to spend on the 1.2, they so be it. It is nobody's business where they spend their money. I personally, wish that I can afford that lens and I am only a hobbyist and I dont care of what other people will say about my pictures. To me, it is a personal preference.
Yeah, talking about people's money they spend, how good a photog they are, what their motives are for buying lenses...all a little presumptuous and unsavory. This thread is much better on topic...meaning "85f.12...show your shots."
Testing new strobes last month, my youngest and her fav old cat...the 85 shows the cat's cataracts just a little too clearly... Good photo or not? Who knows, I like it.
What exactly are the differences between the 85mm f/1.8 MKI and MKII? I know one is considered to be much more superior to the other one, but which one is better? Thanks.

The 85 f/1.2 is by far my favourite lens. It's not the most versatile, and it's certainly not magic.... buuut - you can make magic with it. =)

The II is little faster for AF, and the new coating is much better than the old one....but you can't go wrong with eather of them...
