Have been at PMA for the past few days and got down to the floor show this morning. Had a chance to put my CF card in the sigma 200-500 2.8 with the 2x teleconverter that they had attached to a 5d (could not take off the converter). Thought I would share some of the pics with you of and from the combo.
The guy at the booth didn't speak english very well so it impossible to get any questions answered. Instead, I was just stuck taking a couple of quick snaps before they stopped me.
I just thought it might be of interest for anyone interested in seeing what the images would look like. Personally, I don't ever imagine that I will ever come across one of these again.
Cheers,
D
P.S. Canon wasn't as nice when I asked to put the card in a 1dsMkIII w/200mm 2.0. Oh well.
PPS All dust spots are courtesy of Sigma's 5D. Was surprised that it wasn't cleaned before putting it on display.
AF was a bit slow but that might have been more user error. I couldn't figure out how to work the bloody honking ball head and could only move it up and down. Only the centre focus was activated and it was not over a high contrast area.
I really was rushed (was there for other purposes) and just did these very quickly. I'll try and stop by the booth again tomorrow and see if I could do some more specific testing. However, as you can probably tell by my portfolio, I'm probably the worst person to test this sort of thing. It's is pretty much a useless lens for me. Needless to say, it was pretty damn cool to see it.

Did they mention how much it will cost?
No. Nor when it would be out. I asked but as I said, the representatives english was pretty bad and he did not really understand me. The best I could figure out is that it would be out in either 2 months or now or never Seriously, that was the three different answers I got when I asked the question three times. . Nothing on price.
As to your comment about Canon not letting you put your card in the 1dsmkIII w/ 200mm f/2 is because those are preproduction models. They were happy to let you do it in almost anything else, just not the preproduction models.
That original image taken at 1000mm (including the 'attachment') is pretty impressive - particularly taking into acount what you say about all the circumstances in which you took it.
