It's for people who earn so little that their payroll taxes (medicaid, ss) are plenty of burden. If you earn so much that you won't get a rebate, you have no cause to complain. You've been getting plenty of services from the government throughout your life.

If you don't pay taxes, then you shouldn't get a tax rebate. People who pay taxes, should get a tax rebate. If you want to help the people who don't pay taxes, up their welfare benefits then....

Where are the mods

I agree with you. This is not the place for political and economic policy discussions. We will not solve these problems here, nor will we come to a concensus, so not much good can come from the direction of this thread IMO.

Yes I did personally pay my taxes that pay a portion of all of those things you mention. They aren't free then are they for a good high tax paying American like myself...so what's your point ...err, nevermind, go buy a lense with your rebate.

I'm with you rockitman. Those of us that are considered too wealthy to receive a rebate (mind you that's only $75,000 / year on one version of this bill) pay our fair share of taxes, and many of us at this income level have NEVER used any free medical services. Our roads are maintained by GAS taxes, and not so much federal income tax. Even so, if I make more money, does that mean I drive more and cause the roads to need more repair than those that make less than me? Prison and School funding is a totally different topic not needed to be discussed in this fine photography forum.

The bottom line is this... wait until a final version of this bill is passed. At present the House and Senate are still far divided and it might take some time for both to agree on a single plan.

Warren Buffett, the third richest person in the world said his 2006 taxes came to 17.7% while 15 workers in his office, including his secretary, paid an average of 32.9%. There are GOP talks about cutting capital gain tax to zero as a way to fix the economy, which will drastically lower Warran Buffett's and his fellow billionaires' taxes even further. Is it not welfare to the super rich or the fairest tax system in the entire free world

17.7% tax rate on his $46 million of taxable income in 2006:

He paid $8,142,000 in taxes. That's quite alot for one person. Do you think he is getting his gov't services "bang for a buck" ? No he is not....by the way, I hate warren buffet....Suzy the secretary on the other hand is lucky to pay $2,000 in annual taxes. I am sure she gets her monies worth of gov't services though...that people who pay the most taxes pay for....Talk about fairness and equity....

Just because some people are wealthy and successful, doesn't mean they should be hated and taxed unfairly. Look at it this way, if it wasn't for the upper 20% income makers who contibute close to 90% of all tax revenue, there would be no money for gov't services for the less fortunate. oke:

I really get a laugh out of some of the comments. But, it is their opinion, and facts has nothing to do with it. Bash on.

rockitman - you said "I have received zero gov't services throughout my life." The obvious point of my post is that what you said was wrong. There are lots of services provided by the gov that you use directly or indirectly.

rockitman, to me, it makes perfect sense that those making millions off of the sweat of other's brows should pay a little extra in taxes to help out those that make peanuts making their millions for them. I would hardly complain about paying 8 million intaxes if i cleared 38 million.

Good idea - this type of subject matter only serves to tick people off, both those that pay a lot in taxes and those that pay a little. It's just a sore subject, and the discussion cannot be calm.

And just to get my $.02 in (y'all knew that was coming!), I'm in favor of a totally flat tax with no deductions, and no credits. Everybody pays the same - 10% of all income. No exceptions. That way, we don't have to have discussions like this any more, and everybody pays their fair share.

when people start talking about "printing money" i wonder if we've got a few ron paul supporters in here or people that at least see the stupidity of some of our monitary policy...

anyways, i know people think this sudden political/economic discussion is off topic, but last time i checked, no one HAD to hire me (or possibly, you) as a photographer. in fact, photography is pretty low down on the list of needs...oh wait, photographers provide a want, nevermind.

i for one am horrified at the way that the vast majority of both parties are handling the economy...but, why should we have a better understanding of these things, really.

lets just burry our heads in the sand, right?

we tolerate ENDLESS threads of canon sucks! nikon is ahead now! no its not! not to mention, threads that shouldnt even exist, if people just searched...and on and on and on...

we have one thread that, admittedly, gets kinda sorta hijacked, but in a very important and, dare i say, relevant, direction for us in business (especially small upstart business) and we start yelling for the moderator to rush in and make this disappear.

am i the only one who sees this as odd. i mean, you dont have to participate or even read this thread...
