I downloaded and installed it a couple of weeks ago. It seems to work fine.

it cleaned up quite a few issues i had with it. non opertional ones though. the addition of SMART is nice so it keeps track of the drive itself. all in all a productive update

This is my first frimware update and I'm having some difficulty based on my inexperience. I'm running windows XP. When I get the zip file HOW do I unzip and copy it to colorspace?

throw the zipped file right onto an empty card of your choice

using XP you right click the zipped file and use the extract all command in the pop up command array that will open. have it extract right righ in the card and it takes about 15 sec or less.

put the card in your colorspace and turn it on

hit settings button

hit firmware button

go to the card and do the drill down to the firmware file itself and select it after thats its on autopilot to completion. takes less then 3 minutes. the file extension is .K8E for identification

Thanks SJMS I like your way better than what I did but I did get it done with a few more steps.
I downloaded the zip file. Clicked "extract all files" to open the compressed folders extraction wizard. Hooked up the CS with the USB cable. Selected USB on the CS. Click Next in wizard. Under the box marked "Files will be extracted to this directory" click browse, under my computer select Local Disk K, click OK, click next in the extension wizard, click finish. Right click on the file that comes up, select "send to" then select Local Disk K on the menu. The file will take a few minutes to transfer to the CS. You can tell when it's done when the HD stops. You can then exit the USB connection on the CS taking you back to the main menu. Select More > Settings > Firmware You get a pop up warning but select yes and continue to browse the firmware update and follow the prompts.

WHEEEEEW! I think Hyperdrive left out a few steps for those who might be technically challanged.

Is it a bug or a feature? When I insert any CF card when Colordrive boots up, or insert one before I turn it on, it quickly turns itself out/system doesn't boot. Only when I turn it on and wait until the system is fully loaded, I can backup images.

Do you have the same bug This behaviour, I noticed with the older one and the newest firmware!!!

My Nexto CF doen's mind if a card is inserted when turning on ...

i have none of those issues. i generally put the card in and then boot the drive. but either way it works smooth. now if you put the card in and wait a minute or so w/o a command the device will shut down to conserve energy and you will need to reboot it. approx time is 2 minutes.

Thanks for the reply. I don't talk about the automatic energy saving shutdown, I talk about shutdowns when not expected (within a second), when inserting the card at the wrong time ...

I haven't experienced any of the problems you report. I would suggest contacting hyperdrive for some support.

One feature I miss from the previous hyperdrive is automatic shutdown after a backup. It was nice to backup a card while shooting with another and not worry about turning off the unit.

I just checked. After a backup, it takes about 10 minutes to auto shutdown. I assumed it would shut down quicker. I just never waited long enough after a backup for it to shut down. Like Steve says, it will shut down in about 2 minutes if you turn it on and don't do anything. Apparently, there are different auto shutdown times built into the unit.
