I guess it might be interesting for some 1.3x crop body owners.
EF-S 10-22 lens after simple modification could be used as 12-22mm lens on
1D 1.3x bodies. Here is the full size picture taken with 1D3 and 10-22 at 12mm:
Replaced rear plastic cover with one from EF lens. You can see on the picture above original EF-S cover at the bottom of the picture and EF cover with date code UF 0801 on the lens (I took it off my broken EF 35mm F/2).
If it uses the conventional mount for EF lenses, it should logically work on a full frame too. One look at a 80-200L mount or even moreso with a lens like a 85L seems to indicate that. Interesting modification - congratulations as you appear to be the first person to report this .
Another thing to consider, some folks had luck using the Canon brand extension tubes. If you get the new version of the smallest one (12mm?) it will accept the EF-S lens and then mount to a full-frame camera.
There were some positive results from folks who were using their 65mm macros on 5D/1DII.
Of course the extension tube route won't be as good for the 10-22 as it will make focusing more challenging.
The catch is - you don't want to use the lens below 12mm on 1.3x and below 15mm on FF, as you get black corners on the pics and the mirror will hit the rear element.
This is interesting. Would you be so kind as to do a few more shots on normal Jpeg files? Also photos of faces are close range - just wanna see the sharpness.
Would be interesting if someone did a modification to the 60mm macro as well.
Look forward anxiously to seeing more piccies from a very resource people.
PS : Btw, which screws did you remove to take that piece off? Can you show some photos? Thanks for your troubles.
I have also shot with the 10-22 on my MK III. Modification is easy - put your finger inside of the rear plastic cap on the 10-22 and pull. It is only pressed into place. Can be easily put back. Look through the viewfinder, if you see dark edges, do not shoot. It is failry obvious. I did also try my only other ef-s lens: 17-55 but no go. Vignettes at all settings.

Great info! Have always wanted to do this but did not have the confidence to try (actually $$$ to spend on another lens if I screwed up!) Have you actually tried shooting it at 10mm? Would the rear element of the lens actually hit the mirror, or it would still be ok? That's the scary part - accidentally set the lens to 10mm and then pressed the shutter release - would definately do this mod if it is still safe to shoot at 10mm - some samples would be great too!!!! Thanks!
I have an old and broken EF lens laying around and a 10-22 gathering dust so I tried it myself.. Very easy to switch once you have worked out what to do
I am concerned about the mirror on my 1DmkIII hitting the glass if I accidently try to shoot at 10mm.
Have you been brave enough to try?
I'm not so the 10-22 is back to being an EF-S so I can sell it soon.

Great Idea, can you buy the rear cover as a spare part, I don't have any other EF lenses that are broke and I am not brave enough to take them off my L glass. I do have the 10-22 I got it for my 20D, but the widest I have for my 1Dlll is my 24-70 L, would be cool to try but I am scared.
