p.1 #1 · Question on Germany

I'm headed to southern Germany in April and was wondering if anyone could give me ideas on wild flowers.

Specifically what the bloom season is.

Good point, I certainly wouldn't want to exclude Ute! We have little enough feminine charm in here, we need to keep those we have happy!

p.1 #5 · Question on Germany

Hi,

April might be a little early for wildflowers in Germany. If so you should go somewhere in the Alps region (Bavaria), or even to Austria or Switzerland, but it could be too early (because of the snow, ski season will end at the end of April). Even better from the beginning of May. And you also should look for a remote area if you want to include some backgrounds. Maybe you should contact some local tourist offices, as for example at www dot allgaeu dot info.

Another idea could be Lake Constance (Bodensee) which is famous for some beautiful scenery and hopefully some nice wildflower spots.

Enjoy your stay in Germany,

pretty hard quastion...
winter was very mild this year and the first flowers already bloom.
April is "famous" for being extremely different in terms of weather. It could snow... but it could also be sunny at 20+°C
which part of southern germany are you going to? More like Munich? black forrest? Stuttgart?

p.1 #7 · Question on Germany

I'll be starting in the Mosel Valley and making my way to Munich. Then back to Frankfurt via the Romantic Road.

p.1 #8 · Question on Germany

Gentlemen,
although I don't live in Germany, my home is near the border to Germany, about 100 kilometers from Munich.
The wildflowers here are almost the same as in Germany. Here is a very interesting link about wildflowers (Wildblumen) all year round, unfortunately in German language, but I think it is a good training

Enjoy

p.1 #9 · Question on Germany

I have been to the Dolomites (Alps) in June last year and the meadows were full of blooms. In the south of Germany spring is very late, because of the snow season. Therefore try may or the beginning of june.
If you start at the Mosel area (by the way a very nice area with great wines ), be there in the middle of may. Then you will have the cherry trees full of bloom.
However, we don't have a very steady spring season here in Germany. Sometimes it starts in april and sometimes four weeks later. If you want to be on the safe side, travel in may.

Regards,
Frank

I live along the mosul river. you want someone to show you around or too shoot with let me know. (dont want to be a third wheel though) BTW I think the mosul itself is difficult to photograph. the lighting is dificult, and vineyards are always a challenge with all the lines.

I have been in the Austrian alps in April. the thing is that there is quite elevation difference, and you can still have lots of snow in the high country and flowers in the meadows and valleys, but as mentioned before the the weather is terribly unpredictable. but snow on the mountains makes for great photos wildflowers or not. the Garmisch region is beautiful in April, I think you will have a good trip.

p.1 #13 · Question on Germany

Hi,
I am a huge fan of our wildflowers.

There are wildflowers blooming throughout the year. We already have flowers blooming now for example "Schneeglöckchen", "Nieswurz" and "Winterling".

There should be plenty of flowers around in April. It all depends on what you want to see. You should have cherry blossom and blackthorn at the end of April, which is quite nice. I also love meadows in spring with blossoms of "Schaumkraut".

As for the weather: April weather changes a lot, however on April 23rd I have never experienced rain. It is my father's birthday and he always has beautiful weather. So late April is often rather nice.

Sounds like you chose a very nice route too. You should have lots of fun.

If you want more specific tips about special types of flowers or how to find them, feel free to pm.

Greetings from Wiesbaden
