p.1 #1 · Help wanted for Ireland trip

Hi all!

I'm looking for tips for a short trip to Ireland. It's been planned to cure my sisters fear to fly. We'll land in Dublin early on May 8 and fly back on the evening of the 14th, so we will have about 5 days. I thought about driving south along the coast and back north on the west coast to Limerick and back to Dublin. We'd also like to have a day or two for hikes in the most interesting places.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Carlo

I would offer a couple of travel tips, based on our visit in 06. Our trip did not include the southern area because the airline (Air Canada) messed up our schedule. Get full insurance on the car; it relieves the mind a great deal when you drive on narrow roads. Pack lightly. Our "full-size" car was the European version of the Toyota Corolla. Four of us and our luggage fit comfortably.

Our stays at B&B's were very pleasant; arrive in time to enjoy the hospitality of the hosts and the small villages. We made reservations each day for the evening. You've picked a scenic part of the country to visit. Use a tour bus in Dublin to see and learn about the city. If you go to Galway, we suggest you use a tour bus to see the city.

if you go way north you should check out the Giants Causeway it is really one of the coolest things I have seen. especially if you get a good sunset. you can see some photos on my site under Ireland. it is a ways out of the way but is beautiful, and ther is some really nice hiking along the coast

Carlo... I echo imaginarydave's comment about heading north tot eh Antrim Coast and the Giant's Causeway area. Dublin to Belfast is only about 2 hours, and another hour gets you to the north coast. Beautiful scenery and a wealth of hiking to explore. Here's some of my pix from two summers ago: Ireland pix

George, Dave(?), David, many thanks for the tips! I'll check out these places on the map.
Dave, if the Eifel pics are from you home region, we live less than 2 hours away from each other. I was even born halfway between my current home and the area around Prüm where you took these pictures.

I have only been to Northern Ireland, but if you make it there, Giants Causeway is a must see.
