Last weekend I was fortunate to work in a quick trip to Death Valley. After seeing all of the images on here for the past couple of years, I couldn't wait for an opportunity to visit the park. What an incredible place. I also managed to pick up a Canon 5D, so it was nice to get out and work with that for the first time.
I have a lot to go through, but thought I'd start with this one from Zabriskie Point my first morning there. It's an awesome place to visit and one of my favorite I stopped at. Although as great as the viewpoint was, the hike I did the following day from Golden Canyon, out to Zabriskie and then looping back through Gower Gulch, would easily be one of the favorites I've done. The badlands around the point are spectacular.
Anyway, I'd appreciate any comments and critiques. I've got a lot to learn using the new camera and I know you all will have some great feedback. More photos to come as well.
Very nice shot - we'll visit this point this week, I'm sure.... I also agree with you on the hike from Golden Canyon being one of the coolest hikes in D.V. - I didn't do the full loop then but hope to this week. How long is the loop? Here's one shot from the hike into Golden Canyon:

Awesome shot!! Please share what post work you did to get these colors to look so marvelous.
Thanks Joe. My post work is primarily done through levels adjustments, one for the foreground and one for the background. A hue and saturation layer to bring up some of the colors in the foreground and then a photo filter at around 5% on Magenta to strengthen those tones a little in the sky. I also added some contrast to the foreground since it had not light on it.
Thanks as well to Robert, Travis, Klaus, Barry, David, Ben, Tim and Joe. I'm glad you liked this one and I appreciate the feedback.
And I sent John a PM on this, but if anyone else is curious, the Golden Canyon loop through Zabriskie and down Gower Gulch is about 6 miles. There are a couple of side trips you can do to make it a little longer, but the hike as is is spectacular. The badland formations below Manly Beacon are even more impessive when you among them. I can't recommend it enough.
Nice work, Todd. I'll bet you love the 5D I really like the different layers brought out by the varied colours in this from the very front right through the picture. The light on the background mountains is lovely indeed.
