No, I am not an admin...that is why "rules" is in quotes.
I recently quoted my FM rule # 2 in the Canon forum and someone asked me what my other rules were....Here they are...and yes, they are generalization, but how often are they true?
1. The camera is correct more often than the photographer (even the Canon 1DMIII).
2. If your current DSLR is your first DSLR and your pictures don't look good, it is you, not the camera.
3. Anybody can take a great picture with almost any camera, it takes someone with experience to do it twice in a row.
4. Great color does not happen with even the best camera, it requires proper color management.
5. A great photographer can make the worst camera look great and a bad photographer can make the best camera look horrible...and both usually do exactly that.
6. Professional is an attitude, not a paycheck.
7. We always know more than someone else, and someone else always knows more than we do. What goes around, comes around.
8. Inexperience does not necessarily equate with lack of talent or artistic ability. Inexperience is an easily corrected condition that prevents us from making use of our talents and artistic ability.
9. Any camera you have had for more than a week will do less than you want, but seldom less than you need.
10. The features of the camera in your hand are always less desirable than the features of the new camera in the store.
11. A camera without scratches on the body takes better pictures.
None of the rules are valid according to me. Check this out:
1. No, I paid $4,000 for the body and $2,000 for the 14L II lens so how come it doesn't know to pick out the right person to focus among the 50 or so people in the frame?
2. No. I paid $400 for my D40 and $600 for my 10x zoom and how come my pictures are blurry at the long end when I'm chasing my kids in the house?
3. But how come the Nikon/Canon ads tell me differently? The Canon mom is running up and down the side lines!
4. I spent $$$$$ on CS3, MacPro + 30" monitor, calibration device. Why do my prints from Walgreen's (or another drug store, mass merchandise store, etc) look terrible?
5. No, the 1D3 automatically makes me Ansel Adams. In fact, I'm changing my name to Ansel.
6. I got pro gear. I'm a PRO! I advertise on Craig's List and with my 28-90mm zoom..
7. I know more than you and you'll never know because we've never actually met. We just chat on the Internet. I can make up any claim and all I have to say is "it's my experience..." or "I read it on a Korean/Japanese/Kazakhstan website."
8. Show me your photos before commenting on my work.
9. My 1D2N is a POJ now. Gotta get the D3.
10. IBID
11. The camera without scratches is owned by a rich dentist or doctor/lawyer with GAS.
