From my very early days of getting into Landscape photography, I took a 1.5 day trip up to Death Valley - was supposed to stay longer but was needed back at the ranch so I cut the trip short
I'll be in the Eastern Sierra/Death Valley area for a week starting Saturday.... never had a whole week for photography so I'm very excited for this outing. I'll be in great company too, so it's going to be a fun adventure.
These were some shots that have sat in my folder for 4 years... waiting until I had the skills to know how to present them. This is why you shoot RAW and you don't delete all of the "out-takes" from your 1st pass thru... you might find keepers when you re-visit them even 4 years (or more) in the future.
Thanks for looking - I hope you enjoy.

I just can't believe you have never had a whole week to do photography. Looking at your output, that seems incredible. I am really looking forward to seeing what you can produce when you have the time and space to simply focus on making images. These ones are really good. The first one is my favourite.
The textures and shadow lines in that first one work very well, John...the mountains looks a bit pinched in the frame, but that's merely a nit...solid image. Enjoy that week! Dave
Great shots. I believe you will have an epic time with those great shooters. We all will be waiting for your return. And yes, shooting in RAW is the best advice ever. Best of shooting light to you guys.
Great set, John! Really love the first two. The textures and light and shadow play on the dunes are just gorgeous! There's something captivating about the last, too. Really nicely done!
The first two are certainly my favorites for the color, contrast & depth.
Seeing these were taken with a lowly 10D just help prove that the tool in the right hands can do some pretty good work.
Awesome. Sure is a good thing you saved these, they are wonderful. Great clouds and great lighting in each. I don't know if I could even pick a favorite they are all that good.
Nice pis and really good advice. You never know when you might return to a file and find something that you did not have success with before. Have a great trip next week.
I will give you a wow on the first two John (I do like them all, but the first to really standout) great comp with wonderful texture, depth and rich colors.
