Please help me pick the right lens(e) for my needs : 14L II or 90 TS.
I like to shoot: portrait, candid, flying animals and birds, weddings and kindred performances, underwater and astrophysics, sports and golf, macro and cars, safaris, fashion shows and landscaping.
Would a zoom be better for me ? How is Tamron ?
Also, the 14L is an L lens(e). The 90 TS is not. Do I get the 24 TS instead because it's an L lens(e) too ?

About 14L II. Do I need a slim CPL filter for it ?
As you probably know, the 14L II doesn't accept filters because of the curved front element. And fiddling with the gel filters isn't fun either. But here's what you can do: buy an 82mm plastic filter (glass filters don't work for this method) and microwave it on "high" for three to five minutes (your microwave might vary). The plastic should now be warm and moldable. Using non-stick, heat-resistant gloves, mold it into the shape of the front element of the 14L II. Give it a few minutes to cool down, then tape it to your lens (since there's no filter thread).
Good luck, and as always: follow these instructions at your own risk!
Rainer, that sounds like a cheap and elegant way of doin it.
However, my concern is flaire which would downgrade the lens(e) IQ.
Have you tried the 48mm dropping-in CPL Canon makes ?
I do believe Petkal is playing a bit of a joke. He knows very well he has to buy all the L lenses(e) (that's right, I threw an extra "e" in too) because they are the uber-sharpest ever.
Oh and the D3 is awesome and Canon needs to catch up now because all their cameras are obsolete and no longer take good images. I think that covers everything.
Don't discount the TS-E 90. Canon just forgot the little red ring. Just because the TS-E 24 is an "L" lens, it doesn't make it better. As a matter of a fact, most people agree that the 24 is the worst optically of the 3 TS-E lenses, and the 90 is the best.
Neither lens is good for everything, and you shoot a lot of different things. Which is your priority? Obviously, neither can take the other's place. I personally would go for the 90, but that is just me. I should qualify this with the fact that I do own the 90. What would work best for you? Apples & Oranges

You should get a minolta 50mm f/2, I have one for just 500.00, and design a minolta/canon ef converter mount, then sell it on the grey market.
Sorry Shane, I have not realized Minolta makes SLR lenses.
