I should sign up for the bill me later, and in 6 months they could repo it. It would be a black mark on your credit, but you could just tell the loan officer you go to for you next loan it was a scam. What banker would believe you really spent 99k on a camera lens?

Genius.

I just got the order confirmation and UPS tracking number.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EF_1200mm_lens says:
"Few of these lenses exist; Sports Illustrated magazine owns two of them, as does Canon Professional Services and James Jannard, the billionaire founder of Oakley. B&H Photo Video in Manhattan recently acquired one in their used department, and intends to display the lens as a discussion piece."

Having broken a sink or two in my time, I can say with certainty that the plumber deserves the Porsche. Can't say the same for the others, especially the politician.

I was looking to purchase a new lens. Will this be compatible with my 20D?
Thanks,

I'm going to hold out for the updated one with f/4 and IS.

That's a big lens.

Is it possible to hand hold this thing?

On another note I was in a camera store the other day (a relatively big one in the city (Melbourne, Australia) but tiny compared to B&H) and one of the salesman was bragging about how they were a Canon authorised dealer and could get a 1200mm within 24 hours or some other bullcrap like that. Seems a bit of a stretch for me...lol

I'm thinking about buying one of these for my Rebel XTi that I got at Christmas, but I need to see some sample pictures first to evaluate corner-to-corner sharpness, CA and flare control. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

or

1200 f/5.6 and bragging rights...

Whomever decides to buy this has a fatter wallet than me!

You forgot the SUV or Station Wagon or Minivan that you'll need to haul that thing around.

Too bad there's no IS.

You touch upon an interesting subject. While many Canon photographers, particularly those of wildlife persuasion, swoon at a mere mention of that lens, it is generally not known what the lens performance is like.
It stands to reason that the lens would be sharp and all that, yet if the FL was a strongly overriding design objective with that thing, perhaps some IQ elements had to take a hit. (*PetKal dons an asbestos suit and runs for his life*)

I guess here are some reasons to stick it out with a 1D3. Just imagine... this could be you (or your significant other):
