p.1 #1 · Sparrow Picture- Round 2

After posting my first image and receiving some great feedback, I decided to post another image out of the same series after applying some of the techniques and tips you guys gave me as towards editing the images.

So here is Sparrow image #2
400D 50mm f/1.8
Shot in Manual Mode Custom WB f/4 ISO 400 Shutter Speed 1/125

Comments and Critcs welcome.

Oh yeah - and this was cropped fairly heavily. Shadows/Highlights in PS. Then sharpened with the unsharp mask and ran through neat image once.

It could just mean two things, Ashley, character check, OR everyone is still speechless. I liked it, I think you did good, I can't even get a shot of a Sparrow with my Canon EF 400mm lens to look that good, so my hat is off to you. Keep shooting and keep posting here.

Ashley, your image is very dark on my monitor and shows a lot of artifacts from the use of SH in PP. Try using either a flash or bumping up you iso.

Thanks Randal, I was just a little surprised at the view to comment ratio and thought maybe I had done something terribly wrong - but is that to be expected (the ratio) in the forum?

It may be dark - my monitor isn't calibrated and this was the only computer I've been able to view it on so far. Thanks for your comments, and I'm going to try to find a flash soon. If I bump the ISO up to 800 it seems to affect the image too much for me to save (with the minimal PS knowledge that I have).

Is there a way for me to post it without linking it? (I saw something about subscribing but really am not in the position where I'm able to purchase this right now...maybe in the future if this is the only way.)

Thanks all.

If you can find a place to host your photographs, than you use the [Add a Frame to your picture] link to show them.
Or some of us here have paid a fee to upload photos, then you just use the browse button and go to your file in your computer and upload that way, just make sure you read about uploading and file sizes. It is not that hard if you are good with the computer stuff. You have to remember, this it the digital instant gratification generation, want it now, with the least of effort. Not really knocking anyone, it is just like stated above, some just don't like clicking links. Good luck and keep posting.

Ashley, host any pics for free with no sign up at .
Then just post the last address/url that they display for you.

You can post multiple images in one post

here are a few grayscales to judge your monitor by that may help.
If we all see something quite different then it is difficult to make any meaningful comments

You should see every square with distinct differences

this one is quite good. You should see solid black on bottom right and
equal gradients

this one is good to judge pure color on the left and equal gradients to black on the right

I like this version much better Ashley Much more detail in there without any overly obvious sharpening going on.

Those Gamma and color tests are lovely
No matter what I change, there is always one way off from what it's supposed to look like, I'll stick to my own settings

Randal - Thanks for explaining. I've edited it now so it shows up right away with the guidance of you and others.

Dave - Thanks for those grayscale images. I've changed my monitor settings and can see what you mean now better. I'll see if I can't tweak it more.

mercapto - Thank you very much!
