Just when you think you've seen every angle on Eilean Donan Castle . . . here's another one. We had absolutely stunning weather when we were there in June. The peaceful little village of Dornie has a lot of charm at all times but especially in these trying times we live in.
There are many days when I would swap all the hustle and bustle to live in this place. Best wishes for a Happy New Year to you all.
about 2 years ago I nearly had an opportunity to visit Scotland, but sadly it didn't work out as planned. I was imaging travelling to the Island of Skye and stopping over at Dornie to see Eilean Donan Castle many times.
I like your composition a lot, you had some very nice weather too. Love like these little houses are separated from castle by bridge. Great light, well done.
Thanks for the comments guys. For anyone interested, there is a nice webcam that shows different views of the castle. I don't know how to provide a link here but the web address is www.camvista.com-scotland-scenic-eileandonancastle.php
This is a different view, I never realized there was a village quite so close to the castle! It is a great scene Richard, but I wonder if you could have gotten a little higher from the same vantage point, set up on the roof of the car perhaps, to get a better angle at separating the castle from the bridge?
Thanks to all again for the kind words. We stay at a B&B called The Schoolhouse in Dornie. It is only a 5 minute walk to the castle. Just at the end of the village is a high road that takes you up and over the castle for another interesting view down onto it.
David - never thought of that but if I ever have the opportunity, I will try to do that. This was taken in the car park of a restaurant just across the bridge from Dornie. Now that I look at it, I probably could have moved more to the right and I would have possibly been able to get a little separation of the castle from the bridge. A great excuse to return.
