Here's sharing a female Saxicola caprata from Candaba wetlands, Philippines - 40D + 500 f4 IS + Canon 1.4x II + cheapo Tamron 1.4x, 1000 mm, f/11, ISO 250, 1/200 sec, manual exposure, AF using a non-central point then recomposed, bean bag, resized full frame:

That is a lot of glass combined! And wow, I am happy to say the result is excellent for sharpness, maybe a bit bright on my monitor. Congratulations on steadying that rig for this shot.

I assume these birds are quite shy thus requiring all that reach? Very nice BG.

Amazing shot Romy. Good thing you used the cheapo tamron or I could've poked my eye out with the sharpness on this one!

Mark without knowing which converter is which were you able to tell which is the sharper one? (http://www.pbase.com/liquidstone/image/59316199)

I like the shot Romy. Once again the detail you capture is amazing.

The bird is shy when approached on foot, but one can get near it by using a vehicle as blind (like I did). That shot was from about 25 feet, but since the bird is just 5" total length, I needed 1000 mm to fill the frame in portrait format.

Dave, I think I tried to focus on the neck area for this one, to get the eye and the breast feathers sharp.
