What is your design outlook when designing your album ? I seem to be caught between wanting to go with "less is more" but then a lot of outstanding image don't make it into the album....from modern designs I've seen, alot of pages have two or three max images on them.....like old style albums......only difference is the flush edges and the backgrounds with the overlay images.....is less better ?
My limit is three to five images per double page layout. Sometimes, for receptions, I'll do a row of smaller sized images in a line across the bottom third of the page... but on the whole, three to five is all I do. I like the cleaner lines.
Here is one i did a couple of weeks back.
I guess my thoughts are that i only do busy pages on some series of candids and as a rule i don't usually feature details as major images (one exception in this album) as i think they are part of the background. I do see album layouts whith full page images of lipstick, i wouldn't do that.

I definitely do a couple of highly pronounced detail shots. Those shots are part of the reason people hire me. They like unique and different and want the "little things" highlighted in their books as well. Totally personal preference... no wrong answer as far as I'm concerned.
Yes its interesting to see the different styles.......and thats great. Thats what makes each photographer unique.
A dynamic image is dynamic regardless of the subject matter in my humble opinion. And if YOUR bride hires you, then she obviously wants what you have to offer.
I prefer fewer images per page but if a lot of great reception shots are left over I may do a collage at the end. When every page has a lot of images I just seem to get lost and nothing stands out. Almost like being around someone who won't stop talking. Ok, you made your point now quit talking.
Of course if I show a full page image of the bride walking in the church I may use shots of the bridal party (5-6) since they fit the theme but they will be really small and act as a highlight, not a focal point on not on every page.
Good analogy - trick is to change the pace - a page with 1 impact image and then a page with a wee montage that tells a story - i.e. a sequence. For a 24 page album I aim for 6 full page images and as such ask the couple to nominate 6 favourites.
There are 9 pages out of 30 with a single image. With my albums I try and tell a story and mix colour and black and white as well as add some small details to balance page designs.
Symmetry is a big part of my designs and having space around the images. I am not keen on montages where the borders of prints touch one another, nor do I like images overlaying other images.
