p.1 #1 · Standard Crop Actions & Scripts

I just uploaded a zip file from a windows system. CropsActionAndScripts.zip.

The "CropsActionAndScripts.zip" file contains the following files:

1 "Install.txt" This text file

2 "SampleImage.jpg" A sample file just a Photoshop ProPhotoRGB gradient with stroked standard crops. An Interesting file to view in Photoshop's Print Dialog. Check and Un-check Match colors. You will see that most of the colors in the gradient are outside your printers color space....

3 "Corkboard required.pat" A Photoshop Pattern used when making oval mats.

4 "Standard Crops.atn" This file is a Photoshop Action Set containing both non interactive standard center crops actions and interactive standard Crops actions. These actions can be use with Photoshop's Automate Batch facility. Original Images can be Landscape or Portrait can have any aspect ratio and be any size. Images remain Landscapes and Portraits and do not get resampled. Images are just cropped to the correct aspect ratio and then the image's DPI resolution is changed so they will print the correct size. If you use the interactive crop actions after the action set a selection for a standard center crop you will be put in a Transform Selection step. You can move the selected area using the arrow keys or the mouse. You can also Transform and move the selected area with the mouse. If you transform the selection you must hold the "Shift" Key or the "Shift and Alt" Keys to constrain the selection to its current Aspect Ratio. Note: If you mess up and change the Aspect Ratio doing the Transform hit the "Esc" Key to cancel the transform instead of committing the transform with the "Enter" key. The Action will stop at that point and revert back to the center selection. Press the Play button in the action pallet and you will be back in the Transform step and you can try again remember the "Shift and Alt" keys this time, There are also some actions that will create some overlay layers that will show you how a standard center crops would crop an image. Finally there are actions to create standard aspect ratio oval mats that will fit the image before or after it is cropped.

5 "Adobe Photoshop Scripts" A shortcut to be copied into Photoshop's Scripts directory.

6 "RequiredScripts.zip" A zip package contains the Scripts used by the Actions.

To load the "Corkboard required.pat" either drop the file on Photoshop or use the preset manager pull-down menu "Patterns" then click on load browse to the folder you unpacked "CropsActionAndScripts.zip" file highlight "Corkboard required.pat" and click on load.

UN-zip RequiredScripts.zip to your C:\ the scripts will be extracted to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Scripts\My Scripts". The directory "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Scripts" is not an Adobe directory it is one I created. To get the current version of Photoshop to use it you must copy the "Adobe Photoshop Scripts" shortcut file to the current Photoshop's Scripts directory like "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Scripts". When Actions are recorded that use a Script the full path of the script used is recorded into the action. By having my own Script directory outside of Normal Adobe path allows my actions that use scripts to be used from release to release without having to edit or rerecord action steps.

To load the "Standard Crops.atn" action set either drop the file on Photoshop or use the Action Pallet Fly-out menu "Load Actions..." browse to the folder you unpacked "CropsActionAndScripts.zip" file to and load "Standard Crops.atn".

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These actions have recorded the scripts are in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Scripts\My Scripts" Once unzipped to there these actions may even work in CS2 CS and PS7 if scripting for PS7 was downloaded for all I know.

There are scripts that can select elliptical selection and mat selection for a given aspect ratio. Sample actions are provided to create a mat layer like this.
